The Market in McMinnville -
every Saturday in March!
We'll be a guest winery at the Market in
McMinnville every
Saturday in March. The
Market has a cool vibe and is a great place to discover visual and
literary art, boutique goods, organic produce, entertainment, fine food
and provisions, and lots of other nifty stuff.
We'll be pouring (and selling)
our 2007 Lia's Vineyard Pinot Noir and "Jory Slope"
Chardonnay as well as previewing (and, yes, selling) our 2008 Lia's
Vineyard Pinot Noir and the exciting 2008 "Jory Bench Reserve" Pinot
Noir. We'll be charging a small tasting fee, but, of course,
we'll apply it against your bottle purchase.
Hours for the wine garden are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the rest of the
market is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

New Vineyard Manager: Javier Marin

We're very pleased to welcome Javier Marin as our new vineyard
manager. Javier was previously vineyard manager for the highly
regarded Shea Vineyard in the Yamhill Carlton District, where he had
worked since the initial plantings in 1990. After 20 years with
Shea, Javier has started his own vineyard management company, JM
Vinegrower, and for this growing season he will be working alongside us
and his excellent crew to manage our site and the neighboring Olenik
Vineyard. Javier is regarded as one of the Willamette Valley's
most talented
growers and we're thrilled that he has agreed to manage our site.
Work is already well underway in the vineyard. In a few days the
vines will all
be tied and ready for bud break.
New Online Store
We've
opened
an
online
shop to make it easier to buy our wines! When we learned that
American Winery offered shopping cart services to wineries with
no set-up charges and very reasonable transaction fees, we
didn't hesitate. They deal with processing payments and making sure the
site is secure, and then we take care of fullfillment. We're a very
small
operation, so we really appreciate this service. Give it a try and tell
us what you think. We welcome your feedback. Need an
incentive? How about $1 shipping with the purchase of four or
more bottles.

Cellar Update - February 2010
Our 2009 pinot noirs are finishing malolactic fermentation in barrel
and we're really pleased with what we're tasting. Wow.
We
love
the
2008
vintage,
and
we
were
kind
of
worried
that
it
would
be
a
tough
act to follow. But the 2009s are all gorgeous. Of
course, there is always an
excitement in the cellar that can bias the taste buds. But we're
really looking forward to following these wines on their journey to the
bottle -- and eventually your tables. And we're wondering how to
select for a "reserve" bottling when every barrel is so awesome ....
We haven't bottled the 2008 Chardonnay yet. We'll get it in
bottles soon: The excellent 2007 is almost sold out!
2009 Harvest Report
We harvested the last of our 2009 vintage pinot noir and Chardonnay on
October 16th. Yields were spot on target at 2 tons per
acre. The pinot noir came in super tasty and at an average brix
of 24. It looks like this vintage is going to make some pretty
big wines. The pinot went through a long, temperature-controlled
cold-soak prior to fermentation with resident yeasts.
The Chardonnay is undergoing a slow ferment in barrels. We're
using a few stainless barrels this year. Brix were a bit high on
the Chardonnay, but the juice was very dense, tasty and tangy.
We're looking forward to watching this vintage develop. Join our mailing list to
ensure you can be among the first to receive Longplay News.
